It’s A Big One! How To Prepare For Your First Ocean Fishing Charter

If you're heading out on your first ocean fishing tour, such as with Queen Conch Charters, being prepared will ensure that you make the most out of your adventure. Ocean fishing is nothing like fishing from the side of a lake, pond, or stream. Even if you've been on the boat in the middle of a lake, you're not going to fully appreciate the ocean experience until you're out in the middle of it. Here are some simple tips and tricks that will help you enjoy your day on the ocean.

Start Out with a Full Stomach

If you've never been out on the ocean, don't try to start the day with an empty stomach. That's the quickest way to end up with a massive case of sea sickness. To prevent sea sickness so you can enjoy the day, be sure to start out with a full stomach. Eat a hearty, healthy breakfast before you head out on the boat. You should also bring along some snacks to keep your stomach calm. If you have a tendency to develop car sickness, it's also helpful to stop by your local pharmacy and pick up a package of motion sickness medication.

Bring Plenty of Protection

The sun can get pretty brutal out on the ocean. That's because it's reflecting off the water and back up to you. If you're not prepared, you could end up with a serious sunburn. To prevent sunburn, be sure to pack plenty of protection. You're going to need a hat for your head, sunglasses for your eyes, and sunscreen for your skin. If your nose tends to burn more than anything else, you should also bring along some zinc oxide cream. Apply the cream to your nose before you head out to sea. If you're not sure where to find zinc oxide cream, you can pick up a tube of diaper rash ointment. Zinc oxide is the main ingredient in many of those ointments.

Don't Be Ashamed to Ask Questions

If this is going to be your first experience deep sea fishing, don't be ashamed, or afraid, to ask questions. There are going to be plenty of people who've done this before, and they'll be more than happy to give you a few pointers on how to catch your first big fish. Once you catch a fish, be ready to clean it and eat it right on the boat. It will be the freshest sashimi you're ever going to eat.
